I Despise the Night (Imagery Poem)
Joshua Hwang
The Earth has now gone to bed,
Shadows will surround my head,
For I can’t see by infrared,
I despise the night.
Time to lie down and try to sleep,
Bad dreams will now make me weep,
Why do I see golden sheep?
I despise the night.
All I hear is people snore,
Some with loud and thunderous roars.
Now Dad’s knocking at my door,
I despise the night.
Now I am beneath my sheets,
The night reeks with rotten beets,
Those don’t smell like tasty treats,
I despise the night.
The sun is swallowed by the moon,
Which will come up pretty soon,
It sure looks like a white cocoon,
I despise the night.
I will take a little nap,
People woke me singing rap,
My spit tastes like slimy sap,
I despise the night.
My pillow feels like a stone,
The moon is white as a bone,
Now I lie down with a moan,
I despise the night.
